water gardening

One of a series of 100 hour "short" courses from the Garden Design Academy suitable for garden enthusiasts, garden designers and landscapers.

This course develops your skills in designing, constructing and maintaining water features and gardens - everything from ponds to fountains and waterfalls.

Water gardens add a new and unique dimension to gardens, and can be used in many different ways to create many different effects. Still water in a tranquil garden pond or pool creates a feeling of serenity and peace, while moving water in fountains, streams and small waterfalls gives a more dynamic feel to the garden, generating a sense of life, movement and sound.

This is a eight lesson course of approximately 100 hours study:

  1. Introduction: Scope & Nature of water features, water quality, plants & animals in water, etc.
  2. Construction
  3. Equipment: Pumps, Lights, Filters etc.

  5. Spas and Swimming Pools –Design & After care
  6. Water Features –Indoor & Outdoor –Fountains, Waterfalls, Fish tanks, ponds etc

Each lesson culminates in an assignment which is submitted to the Academy, marked by the Academy's tutors and returned to you with any relevant suggestions, comments and if necessary, extra reading.

Working with Colin Elliott, award winning landscaper and garden designer, the course covers the essentials of this complex subject.
